How to replace a faulty fuel flap actuator in Mercedes Benz

The new style fuel flap actuator in Mercedes-Benz vehicles is not very well made. Over time, water and moisture seep in, corroding the motor and causing it to fail.

In the photo below, you will see a failed fuel flap actuator that was corroded due to water and moisture ingress.




If you experience any issues with the fuel flap opening, it’s advisable to replace the fuel flap actuator immediately. Otherwise, you’ll need to remove some boot trimmings to access the emergency fuel flap button from inside the vehicle if the actuator becomes completely unresponsive. A replacement part number is A0008205003, and you can purchase it from Mercedes or an aftermarket supplier on Amazon.
The manual emergency fuel flap release button is located on the bottom of the fuel flap actuator.




If the fuel flap actuator isn’t working, remove the boot trimmings on the side of the vehicle with the fuel flap. Then push your hand up through the opening and feel for the rubber pad at the bottom of the actuator. Press it to open the fuel flap manually.




Use a flathead screwdriver or a pry tool to pry the fuel flap actuator clip, then replace the fuel flap actuator.

How To Fix a Blurry Augmented Reality Navigation Camera in Mercedes Benz

The augmented reality navigation camera in many Mercedes-Benz vehicles often becomes blurry after a few years.
This is because the lens coating crystallises from constant direct sunlight and heat.



Here are three options for repairing this issue:
Take your vehicle to a Mercedes main dealer for a camera replacement, which will be expensive.
Buy the part from Mercedes or eBay and replace it yourself. You’ll need to programme the new camera using Mercedes diagnostic software.
Buy the part from Mercedes or eBay and replace the faulty lens. This option doesn’t require Mercedes diagnostic programming.

In the photo below, you will see the lens coating crystallises due to constant direct sunlight and heat, causing the camera to display a blurry image.



In this article, I demonstrate option 3: purchasing a used augmented reality navigation camera from eBay for £15 and swapping the faulty lens.
Use a pry tool to pry off the windshield cover, insert the plastic pry tool at the top and pull towards you.



Remove the camera.



Use a file, a saw or a Dremel 8240 Cordless Rotary Tool with a Dremel 690 EZ SpeedClic Cutting Wheel to cut a slit in both camera lenses as shown in the photo below.
Then unscrew the lenses and swap them over. The reason you need to make the cut is that the lens is screwed on and then glued, which makes it very difficult to unscrew without the cut.



Swap over the lens and reinstall the camera into the vehicle.

CameraLoops Now Has Its Own UK Vehicle Registration Number to VIN Lookup Tool

In September 2023, I published an article outlining a clever little trick to generate the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for a UK Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) using a third-party website, for free. Unfortunately, the third-party website owner discovered the trick and resolved the issue. As a result, I have now implemented a UK VRN-to-VIN lookup tool directly on this website.
Knowing the VINs of different GM vehicles is essential for gathering calibration files for GM vehicles with varying specifications and activating module features. It's also useful for checking RPO codes and vehicle options through the GM Techline Connect Service when purchasing a used vehicle. You can find various VINs by using websites like ebay.co.uk and autotrader.co.uk to collect vehicle registration numbers, convert those VRNs into VINs, and then utilise those VINs with the GM Techline Connect SPS service to download calibration files or check RPO code specifications.

How to Fix the High-Pressure Beeping Issue with the AirSep VisionAire 5 Oxygen Concentrator

When I need to buy expensive mechanical or electrical tools, I often check for faulty units available for sale that I can repair, which helps me save a significant amount of money. Recently, I needed an oxygen generator for my jewellery soldering system, as purchasing compressed Oxygen in cylinders is quite costly. I bought a faulty AirSep VisionAire 5 oxygen concentrator for £50, which retails for around £1,000 new.
The issue with this unit was that it would shut off after five minutes of use and emit a series of four beeps, indicating a high-pressure fault. After conducting some research online, I discovered that over thirty other people had encountered the same problem, and no one had provided a solution.
Upon inspecting the unit, I identified the problem and found a solution, which I now share with those looking for a quick fix for the high-pressure beeping issue in these units.

How to add Wireless Apple CarPlay to the GM HMI 2.5 Module

In 2021, I purchased a USB adapter named Carlinkit to enable wireless Apple CarPlay in my car. At that time, it was the only device available on the market for Vauxhall vehicles that supported this feature. Unfortunately, that device did not function properly. I found it inconvenient to plug my phone into the car via USB cable every time I wanted to use Apple CarPlay, so I reverted back to using the car's built-in Bluetooth feature for my phone.
This week, I noticed several wireless Apple CarPlay adapters on Amazon, so I decided to buy two different brands at varying prices to test them out.
Both adapters work exceptionally well with the GM HMI 2.5 system. They connect to my iPhone within four to five seconds after the radio boots up. One of the best features is that my music resumes playing where it left off when I exited the car. Despite the two adapters differences, they share the same Bluetooth name: "Smartbox-XXXX." I suspect these adapters are clones of existing or open-source software created in China. I could only test them with Apple CarPlay, as I do not have an Android phone. Out of the two adapters, I prefer the Aieloar Wireless CarPlay Adapter.
If you're looking for wireless Apple CarPlay for your HMI 2.5 vehicle, I highly recommend checking out these adapters. You won't regret it!

Hacking The GM Harman INFO3, INFO3.6 CSM Radio

I've already successfully hacked this GM Harman INFO CSM radios and created a DPS VIN change file, which can be used to unlock and remove the Theft Lock from these radios.
The DPS VIN change file can be found at this link.
My next goal is to explore this radio further to identify additional hacking opportunities.
Sometimes, locating connectors for the modules can be difficult, so I purchase modules from sellers who cut the connector wires and include them with the module purchase. This allows me to acquire some connector cables without purchasing the wiring harness.
This article is a placeholder for future findings and experiments.

The future

I think I'm going to start doing more in-depth writing about myself and my perception of this world, as there are many people out there who are interested in what I have to say and what I have to offer. I'm very good at writing. Furthermore, I'm very good at all things except roller skating. That's the only thing I've ever tried, and I couldn't get the hang of it the first time. A person cannot become the best singer without having songs for people to listen. I shall start building my literature archive and publish it on my social media accounts and my websites.

If only it were that easy to leave my protected comfort zone. Every now and again, I have to activate the vicious Lion that resides in me, roar, go crazy bad and ruff, biting heads off and destroying things that are out to destroy and hurt me. Then, when the coast is clear, I return to my protective comfort zone where I can frolic all day long, being silly, funny and enjoying the very basics of life that I enjoy doing, just like a playful baby lion's cub. Yeah, that's me. To the ones who told me I would never become a teacher. Well, I have sad news for you. I am a teacher now. And a very good one. I now have over four thousand intelligent, eager-to-learn students on my website, where I teach how to do sophisticated hacking. Hacking General Motors vehicle electronics😄.

General Motors Is Selling Drivers Data To Insurers

General Motors is stealing driver's data and selling it without their knowledge and permission for a large profit. Isn't that illegally infringing on people’s privacy on a mass scale worldwide¿ The same "Crooked" General Motors is trying its best to remove this website CameraLoops.ru from the internet because here we discuss, share, and provide information to the world on how to repair, modify and recycle General Motors vehicle electronic parts.
 
Those who bought the data allegedly collected by General Motors were able to see if drivers drove or braked too fast, steered too sharply into turns or drove late at night, a lawsuit brought by the state of Texas claims. General Motors is being accused of collecting data about the "bad" habits of drivers and selling it on to insurers. The state of Texas is suing the car company over the allegations, claiming it installed technology on more than 14 million vehicles to collect data about drivers. The lawsuit alleges GM - which manufactures brands including Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick - sold the data to insurers and other companies without drivers' consent. The data was allegedly used to create "driving scores" to determine whether more than 1.8 million Texas drivers engaged in "bad" habits such as driving or braking too fast, steering too sharply into turns, not using seatbelts, and driving late at night. The data-collecting technology, collected by the company's OnStar diagnostics system, was allegedly installed on most GM vehicles starting with the 2015 model year. It is not clear whether the data was used to increase insurance premiums.
 
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the information had emerged during a probe into whether several carmakers collected and sold mass amounts of data without the knowledge of drivers. "Companies are using invasive technology to violate the rights of our citizens in unthinkable ways," he said in a statement. "Our investigation revealed that General Motors has engaged in egregious business practices that violated Texans' privacy and broke the law. We will hold them accountable."
The lawsuit is now seeking the destruction of improperly collected data, compensation for drivers, a civil fine and other remedies. GM did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
I hope all 50 states in the USA and everyone affected worldwide sue the Crooked General Motors Company.

CameraLoops.com URL has changed to CameraLoops.ru
 
On August 10th, 2024, Verisign, the entity responsible for the .com top-level domains (TLD) on the Internet, seized the domain URL CameraLoops.com. Verisign did not provide any prior notice or reasons for the seizure. I suspect that the seizure of the CameraLoops.com domain was partly due to actions by General Motors and its associates, who have attempted multiple times to take down the Cameraloops website from the Internet. The .com domain TLD was always a vulnerability in the CameraLoops network. They carried out the domain seizure by requesting Verisign to manually change the CameraLoops.com DNS to a nameserver they own, which diverted all the CameraLoops.com traffic to a seized page. None of the CameraLoops.com data were shared or accessed by General Motors and its associates. All CameraLoops data is 100% safe and secured offshore. Now, the new domain URL CameraLoops.ru is also safe and secured offshore in Russia, beyond the reach of General Motors and any adversaries who aim to remove the CameraLoops website from the Internet.

Canon GP-E2 GPS receiver-Teardown

Canon GP-E2 GPS receiver. I got this accessory for my camera as I always forget to sync my mobile phone to the camera so it can store the location of each photo I take when I'm out. The GPS and the device's battery notification lights use red LEDs. I would prefer it if the GPS notification LED were green. I opened it up to take a look to see if I could identify and source a green LED, but unfortunately, all the suppliers only sell these LEDs in a spool of 100, which is not worth the cost and effort. So, I'll have to live with the two red LEDs for now or until I find the same specs green LED in a device that I don't need.

The Troy Is Still Hacking

As a young child, I didn't particularly appreciate playing with Jigsaw puzzles since the picture was already printed on the puzzle's box. What I liked doing was taking stuff apart to see what was inside and to understand how stuff operated. Sometimes, that obsession landed me in a lot of trouble. Yeah,' I destroyed a lot of my parents and family member's things in my young years. I was fortunate to have an uncle who was a police officer in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, who would bring home a lot of decommissioned police electronic equipment. That was what sparked my love for electronic devices. 
It's been a while since I've posted significant new findings for GM vehicle electronic device hacking. I'm letting you folks know I'm still hacking. It's just that hacking in the dark takes a lot of time to figure out new things. I've learned and understand many new things, and now I'm waiting for a breakthrough to apply my knowledge to solve some of the puzzle issues related to GM car hacking.

Note: To generate the correct seed key, you must input the module's seed and security algorithm code into the seed key generator tool. 
The included "Read Me! Instructions.pdf" demonstrates how to determine a module's algorithm code. You can also use the GM DPS tool to determine the module's seed.

How To Upgrade Or Recycle A GM IPC, Instrument Custer Speedometer Using GM DPS

Upgrading or recycling a GM IPC, aka Instrument Cluster/Speedometer.
The IPC is part of the IMMO/Immobiliser secured system, which stores both a VIN and a PIN. When upgrading or recycling a used secondhand IPC, you must perform a set of programming functions to get that IPC fully functioning in the intended vehicle. 
 

 
When replacing the IPC with a used secondhand part
You must change the VIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's VIN. Otherwise, the IPC will not display the vehicle's mileage. You may receive a GDS2 DTC "Vehicle identification number not programmed".
You must change the PIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's PIN. Otherwise, you cannot program the IPC via the GM SPS service.
You must use the GM SPS or DPS Type4 "Immobiliser Learn: (Engine Control Module And Body Control Module IMMO Learn)" function to remove and reprogram the vehicle's keys. Otherwise, you will receive a GDS2 DTC "incorrect immobiliser identifier".
You must use the vehicle's VIN and GM SPS service to program the correct calibration files and configuration setup settings onto the IPC.
 
When upgrading the stock low level IPC to a more advanced IPC (bigger screen etc)
 You must change the VIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's VIN. Otherwise, the IPC will not display the vehicle's mileage. You may receive a GDS2 DTC "Vehicle identification number not programmed".
You must change the PIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's PIN. Otherwise, you cannot program the IPC via the GM SPS service.
You must use the GM SPS or DPS Type4 "Immobiliser Learn: (Engine Control Module And Body Control Module IMMO Learn)" function to remove and reprogram the vehicle's keys. Otherwise, you will receive a GDS2 DTC "incorrect immobiliser identifier".
You must manually program the vehicle's correct model identifier and RPO codes into the upgraded IPC.

Activate Video in Motion.
Activate both§ North American and European languages on the infotainment and IPC screens. (The language selected in infotainment settings is set in the IPC).
Activate reverse camera guide-lines.
Activate the reverse camera always on. (Note, an extra attachment or mod is needed to activate the reverse camera always-on feature, which I do not privide).
 
I can activate Arabic and Asian languages on all the GM vehicles that use the HMI 2.5 module.

CameraLoops.com Now have An App

CameraLoops.com push notifications.

 
 
You can now install CameraLoops.com as an app on your phone and tablet.  It's not in the app store: it's called a Progressive Web App, or PWA for short.
The advantages are you can get various push notifications on your phone or tablet when someone replies to your post, sends you a message, etc. The app will work on iOS devices that have iOS v16.4 and up or Android v10 I think.
 
For iOS device
On iOS devices, open CameraLoops.com in Safari and click the share icon at the bottom of the Safari window.

 
Scroll down and click "Add to Home Screen".

 
You now have an icon for CameraLoops.com on your home screen.

 
You must open the app, sign in to your CameraLoops.com account and activate push notifications by clicking the hamburger icon (top right of the screen), click the "notification bell", and then click the "Notification Settings".

 
Scroll down to the Push notification settings and select "Enabled in this browser". Once enabled, scroll up and adjust the various content types to your liking.  To get notifications on your phone, select the Notification + Push Option.

 
You can customise the CameraLoops app notification settings like a regular app in your device settings.

 
 
For Andriod device.
I don't have an Android phone at hand to display the process.
On Android devices, open CameraLoops.com in Chrome
Click the three verticle dots in the upper right corner and scroll down to Install.  This will add CameraLoops.com to your app drawer, and you'll need to move it to your home screen if you wish.
 
On iOS and Android, you must log in using your new app icon before proceeding.  Both systems treat this as a new app and will not copy your login from Safari or Chrome.
Tip: The app does not have a browser back button. To navigate back and forth, use your finger to swipe left for back and swipe right for forth.

How to change VIN & PIN in GM ECM/ECU Modules Using The DPS Tool

As they say, never give up. Whenever you face a brick wall, frustrated with nowhere to turn, eat some food, get some rest, and then tread on some more. The ECM VIN and PIN change via DPS have had me baffled for some time. Today I had another go at it, and after drinking seven cans of Redbull and a lot of thinking, I solved the puzzle/hack.
Changing the VIN and PIN in a used secondhand GM ECM module is very important for those who want to recycle GM ECM modules. With this solution, you can achieve just that. At this moment, it only works for 2-Byte seed ECM modules. I have some 5-Byte ECM coming from the USA. Hopefully, I'll figure out the 5-byte ECM VIN change with DPS when they arrive.

Hacking GM Global-B modules

I'm on a mission to create a bench setup for some GM Global-B architecture modules. My aim is to figure out some method which can be used to recycle GM Global-B modules, including changing VIN and PIN. I have some Global-B modules coming from the USA, an IPC, BCM and an ECM for starters. 
 
Things I need to know before those modules arrive.
I need to know if I can connect a Global-B BCM direct to the power and Canbus data line and have DPS read the VIN, similar to the Global-A modules?
Will I need to route the BCM through another module, like the Network Gateway Control Module to read the Global-B VIN with DPS?
 
This article is a placeholder for future experiments and findings.
 
 
Update 8/March/2023
Today I received my new toys from the USA. An IPC and a BCM, from a 2022 Sierra 1500 Global-B. A BCM and an ECM from a 2022 Silverado 1500 Global-B. A BCM and an ECM from a Chevy Onix Global-B. I don't have the wiring loom, so I'll need to connect them using jumper wires which is going to take me a long time to figure out. Hopefully, I'll have this bench setup up and running.

I've tried for a few days to get DPS to read the VIN in these modules without any success. Anyone has info and a working Global-B bench setup, can you tell me which data pin number on the OBD connector and the BCM pin number for reading VIN with DPS?
Looking at the data OBD connector schematics, I can see the 4 data lines going directly to the gateway module. On the gateway schematics, I can see two 60Ω resistors, do you think I need to add 2 60Ω resistors to the data lines in order to read the VIN with DPS?

I've added the 2 60Ω resistors to PIN 6 and 14 data lines. However, I still can't get DPS to read the VIN from the BCM. My next route is to source a Global-B 2022, 3-plug port K56 serial data gateway module. Until then, I'll have to place this puzzle on pause. 
 
I see that DPS has the option for "with or without gateway". 

 K56 Serial Data Gateway Module
The K56 Serial Data Gateway Module gates messages between the CAN networks described in the Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus Description section below. The K56 Serial Data Gateway Module needs to know what CAN control modules are present on a given vehicle in order to enable/disable loss of communication DTCs and to know what CAN control modules to track for their communication status. The K56 Serial Data Gateway Module has the ability to learn the diagnostic addresses list of CAN control modules to identify what CAN control modules are equipped on the vehicle and what CAN buses they are on. If the K56 Serial Data Gateway Module is replaced, this learn/verification process will have to be done again through K56 Serial Data Gateway Module programming and setup procedure in SPS. This learn process will not cause any previously learned contents to be forgotten/overwritten. If the learn process is not done on a new K56 Serial Data Gateway Module, DTC U1977 will be set until the learn procedure is executed. If the learn is invalid due to control module internal malfunction or a K56 Serial Data Gateway Module swap, DTC U3000 42 or DTC U3002 56 will be set. If any of these DTCs sets, the K56 Serial Data Gateway Module will enable loss of communication for all CAN control modules. This will result in loss of communication DTCs being set against CAN control modules that are not equipped on the vehicle.
A fault can be localized by monitoring the normal mode messages on a CAN bus. The K56 Serial Data Gateway Module will monitor one signal per CAN control module per CAN bus to determine control module status. When a signal times out, a loss of communication event will be started.
 
Update 27/March/2023
Using @T c suggestion for reading the VIN with DPS at the beginning when ECM is powered on. That worked, and I can read the VIN with DPS in the 2021 global-B Chevy Onix ECM. The Onix doesn't have a separate gateway module like some of the other GM vehicles. I think the Onix gateway module is combined in its BCM. My BCM seems faulty, so I couldn't test with both modules fully connected. 
I should receive the global-B gateway module sometime this week, hopefully then I'll get the other modules working.

Update 12/April/2023
I received and connected the serial gateway module with the other modules, as shown in the GM SI schematics. I can now read the VIN with DPS anytime for all modules and perform partial programming, which is excellent. One step further. 
Global-B command functions differ from Global-A, which will take me some time to understand fully.
You will need the serial data gateway module and a genuine MDI2 to do any programming for a Global-B bench setup.

Update 18/October/2024
It is now possible to change the VIN and program General Motors Global-B UDS VIP 12-byte seed security electronic modules using the GM DPS tool. This is an excellent option for those who want to replace a faulty GM Global-B module in their vehicle by recycling a used module purchase from a scrap yard or eBay. More info to follow later.

Update 1/October/2025
Today, I assisted a member who required information to connect the BCM to the Gateway module for a Global-B bench setup. I post the information here in case anyone needs it.
Info for connecting the BCM to the Gateway module for a Global-B bench setup.
Six pins are used to connect the BCM to the Gateway module.
Two battery positive and two battery negative pins need to be connected, along with two AUTOSAR pins. In total, six pins are used for connecting the BCM to the Gateway module.
For the AUTOSAR PINS: Connect the Gateway connector port X1 PIN-18 to the BCM connector port X4 PIN-19, and the Gateway connector port X1 PIN-17 to the BCM connector port X4 PIN-20.
I hope this helps anyone who needs this info.
