HMI 2.5 Firmware 84156714. Adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (For European HMI 2.5 module)

1 Screenshot

Opel-IntelliLink-For-Insignia-720x340-1140x38000.jpg

Important Note:

This HMI 2.5 module firmware is only compatible with GM vehicles in the European market. It is not compatible with the HMI 2.5 module in the North American market GM vehicles.

The Firmware file was retrieved for the European Insignia vehicle, but it should be compatible with all European GM vehicles that use the HMI 2.5 module.

The Firmware file for the North American market GM vehicles HMI 2.5 module can be found at this Web-Link.

Mega link for HMI 2.5 Firmware file 84156714.

You can use this firmware file to update the HMI 2.5 module via a USB stick, which will add the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.

This file does not remove the theft lock from the HMI module.

Click here for the HMI 2.0 and HMI 2.5 theft-lock removal DPS file for North America Satellite radio.

Click here for the HMI 2.0 and HMI 2.5 theft-lock removal DPS file for the Europe SilverBox radio.

After completing the HMI 2.5 firmware update, you will see "calibrate Device" showing on the screen. You can use one of the three options below to remove the "calibrate Device" notification and have the HMI module functioning again.

  1. You will need to use the GM SPS service with a VIN number from a car that has the HMI 2.5 and all the necessary features activated to program your HMI module.

  2. Program the HMI with a DPS archive made for the HMI 2.5

  3. Use these files to program the HMI after a firmware update to Activate video in motion, RVS guide-lines and RVS always on for GM vehicles.

How to install the Firmware:

1. Extract the contents of the file onto a reputable USB stick.

2. Insert the USB stick into the vehicle's USB port.

3. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Check out this article, which demonstrates how to gain wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto for GM vehicles that use the HMI 2.5 module.

Not sure. No, you can't program the firmware using DPS. You could try a different USB stick. Have you had success programming this firmware to other HMI modules in the past?

No, this was the first one. I changed the USB stick, but there was a change. A service friend of mine updates with factory tools and ran into this error on 2 cars. They couldn't fix it, they replaced the HMI module.

The error says, "Failure to write to NAND memory." It could be an EMMC failure. The EMMC get corrupted sometimes.

Did the HMI have any known issues before the update?

Troy Grand Master

If it's a software corruption, using an EMMC dump from a working HMI to program the EMMC chip may solve the issue.

No, it was perfect. The customer ordered a used one, and until it arrived, I put in my old 2.0 module so that the radio and navigation would work.

I do not know that tool. For EMMC chip programming and dumping, I use an SD card adapter, which I then hand solder to the circuit board's EMMC service pins.

The EMMC chip in the HMI 2.5 is basically a standard SD card.

SD card adaptor.

The EMMC pinouts for dumping with an SD card adapter are here.

The SD card adaptor costs £7.29

You can also create one from a micro-SD to SD card adapter.

Hi!
I have a 15.1A052 module, but the update won't start. It plays video and music. This pendrive starts with another module. I've already changed the pendrive, copied everything back to it and nothing. Where should I look for the error?

Either your unit is without NAV (you will need another ZIP file), or you have copied files to USB drive incorrectly (all files must be unpacked to the root directory).

Did you extract all the files to the root of the USB memory? Are you experiencing the same issue in the car with all the other modules, or is this just happening on the bench?

Yes, extract all the files. I only have a problem with this one module and it's on the bench. I had no problems with the other modules.

I successfully updated 2 modules on the bench, 3 modules in the car. Tomorrow I will install the one that failed on the bench in my own car and test it.

On my bench setup, I have ECM, BCM, IPC, HMI, HVAC, CD player, and radio all connected, and the USB firmware update works fine. You may need to check your bench setup configuration. Or install the firmware in the vehicle connected to all the other modules.

Now I bench setup: HMI, Silverbox and display. I will be adding a BCM soon.

Troy Grand Master

If you want to program the HMI on the bench via SPS or DPS, the BCM must be connected.
