Upgrading or recycling a GM IPC, aka Instrument Cluster/Speedometer.

The IPC is part of the IMMO/Immobiliser secured system, which stores both a VIN and a PIN. When upgrading or recycling a used secondhand IPC, you must perform a set of programming functions to get that IPC fully functioning in the intended vehicle. 

 

 

When replacing the IPC with a used secondhand part

1. You must change the VIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's VIN. Otherwise, the IPC will not display the vehicle's mileage. You may receive a GDS2 DTC "Vehicle identification number not programmed".

2. You must change the PIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's PIN. Otherwise, you cannot program the IPC via the GM SPS service.

3. You must use the GM SPS or DPS Type4 "Immobiliser Learn: (Engine Control Module And Body Control Module IMMO Learn)" function to remove and reprogram the vehicle's keys. Otherwise, you will receive a GDS2 DTC "incorrect immobiliser identifier".

4. You must use the vehicle's VIN and GM SPS service to program the correct calibration files and configuration setup settings onto the IPC.

 

When upgrading the stock low level IPC to a more advanced IPC (bigger screen etc)

1.  You must change the VIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's VIN. Otherwise, the IPC will not display the vehicle's mileage. You may receive a GDS2 DTC "Vehicle identification number not programmed".

2. You must change the PIN in the used IPC to match the vehicle's PIN. Otherwise, you cannot program the IPC via the GM SPS service.

3. You must use the GM SPS or DPS Type4 "Immobiliser Learn: (Engine Control Module And Body Control Module IMMO Learn)" function to remove and reprogram the vehicle's keys. Otherwise, you will receive a GDS2 DTC "incorrect immobiliser identifier".

4. You must manually program the vehicle's correct model identifier and RPO codes into the upgraded IPC.

Hi, I have Astra J 2010. I upgraded as per the above to Insignia cluster. I used the Troy's tool from the paid section and sucesfully changed the IPC VIN to the the car's VIN and the mileage works correctly now.

The problem is I get airbag and engine light on the IPC, while no errors on GDS2 (I did not get these with the old cluster). I figured out that i need to upgrade my BCM and SDM to newer versions, because they are too old and cause this error.

Can you guide me on how this can be done? I got the two parts from a 2011 Astra same engine that are supposed to work. Do I change the Module's PIN to the Car's PIN with the tools from the paid section and then program them with SPS? Or do i also need to change VIN before i perform programming wtih SPS?
