I know I'm late to the show, but wondering.. I have a gen2 18 model Volt, the ELR mod is it for gen 2 cars or more hyperfocused on gen 1? With additional KW, is this any harder on the drivetrain/battery lifespan for the Volt?

Working on adding this to use Open Pilot. If I add this, is there any functionality that will not be supported by Open Pilot, or it will work the same as the premier does?

Yes that is true, I am using single wire. Should I use a better tool to monitor / transmit single wire canbus traffic? Do you know a better tool? Thank you.

Are you on GMlan/single wire or HScan? It looks like you're on the single wire canbus.

Wow, that’s pretty cool, thanks! Also, to get longitudinal control, I’d need to swap the engine control module and add a radar? I assume that’s a very difficult process right? Thanks again!
  12. VoltGuru
Yes that's all that's needed believe it or not.

So I found instructions online about how to fingerprint the car. Seems easy enough. Is that really all that would be needed to get LKA on a 2016 LT? No hardware changes required? Just a Comma 2 or 3 and the GM harness? Thanks!!

@VoltGuruthanks for this! Can you explain what would be needed just to get LKA on a 2016 Volt LT? I see you wrote that all it needs is Comma and a “fingerprint.” What’s a “fingerprint” and how would I go about doing that? Thanks!!

I will take a look at the logs and see what isn't connecting, I hadn't thought about doing that..thanks for the suggestion. I have used the pedal interceptor in the past, not a big fan of it and I get the power reduced error about once a week with the pedal installed. I would like to try the archive files if you have them available.

The Comma log files should tell you what hardware is not communicating. It should say "Not Seen xxxxx" You could also try a different fork like OPGM that doesn't use ACC to see if comma works without it. There are plenty of people on Discord that use Comma Pedal instead of ACC with good results too. I did make all of the archive files if you want to try mine out. You should use DPS to install the new Volt Firmware.

I have a 2017 Premier with LKAS but no ACC. I have purchased and installed the radar and programmed it using a OBD2 programmer and SPS. I would love to get the OBD2 harness to work with Open Pilot, but always get a hardware malfunction error. When I look at the list of calibrations above, I noticed a few are different than what I have when I check my files. Is there a repository where I can get the differing files?

Hello everyone I am a beginner, I constructed a sniffing device using Adam Varga's youtube video series "hack your car". I am sniffing pin 1, GMLAN. In his video when he sniffs his data, his IDs are 3 bytes. However, when I sniff my 18 volt, almost all my IDs are 8 bytes. such as "1036A080". In addition, some of my packets that do different things appear to be identical. I wonder what I am doing wrong, I really want to sniff and send packets over the GMLAN network, but am having difficulty because of these problems. So my data looks like this for example: 1681.45,108680CB,00,01,08,A3,02,8C,0A,2C,A8,B2,00 1673.20,102C6060,00,01,06,00,00,00,00,E7,14,, 1666.92,1038C040,00,01,05,00,00,FF,7F,72,,, 1665.07,1036A080,00,01,07,09,00,00,00,00,00,00, Does anyone know why my data looks so different, why my IDs are so big? I did a little research and I found that my data looks like J1939 data, which I read is used in heavy duty trucks, the opposite of a Volt.

Make sure you use the DPS method found on this website to flash your firmware correctly. Also, the instructions are the opposite for USA cars. You will get a BIN file from SPS. You will need to use 7zip to extract them. The extracted files will not be BIN files. You then use these non-BIN files to make your archive file to flash.

Okay, I am ordering parts to try this. I saw the list for LT does not include camera and only mention of camera on github was the Service Camera message that is resolved when Comma loads. With comma installed, is the front camera not necessary for LT? Also, wondering why Camera is needed for premier?

Yes you would remove the grille. The bracket is already installed for all trim Volts. You could buy the radar grille but its pretty expensive. I just removed the chrome grille and will probably 3d print something for it. Below is the link for the general instructions. I would use DPS to flash your firmware instead of SPS2 method. 2017 Chevrolet Volt LT Hardware Modifications to allow Openpilot Operation GITHUB.COM openpilot is an open source driver assistance system. openpilot performs the functions of Automated Lane Centering and Adaptive Cruise Control for over 200...

Do you need to swap out the grille to install the radar module? Is their a bracket that the radar module is connected to that also needs to be ordered?

The ELR does not have Lane keep assist so it will not work. It's more of Gen1 Volt than Gen2 Volt.
