"It" here meaning the BCM, I'd assume? I've had no luck acquiring the XML files for configuring the BCM in that way...

@a b will pack mine BCM configuration files if you want. As I say can share mine complete BCM calibration files with these extras. But not sure how you will load into your car as mine is diesel.

I'm willing to give it a go if you're willing to share!  

 

DPS allows you to mix and match calibrations to your heart's content, and as long as you make sure the powertrain calibrations are stock you can load a lot of different combinations while making sure the car will still start and drive.  Error codes are a different matter altogether, but one lives and learns - for example, one combination I tried involving fog lamp calibrations ended up killing the rear turn signals, because US-spec cars don't have fog lamps or the attendant wiring in the taillamps.

The particular calibration for headlamps that you have, 39142371, is one that I've tried before.  The issue with that calibration seems to be that TourX's have a different headlamp control switch than Insignias - I can successfully program it as part of a BCM package, but it locks the low beams on and disables the off switch for the headlamps.

 

Is there some way to decode these calibration files into usable text for editing purposes, or are you stuck playing guesswork as to what parts to edit and what parts not to edit?

Did you flash headlight control module as well? What is your time zone? Editing is guess work I’m afraid

HCM and FCM both.  For whatever reason I was unable to build my own HCM DPS archive off the cals I pulled off of SPS, but I was able to program it using the VIN of a scrapped Insignia B that I found online.  (The HCM is sensitive to suspension setup - the TourX has the five link suspension but is not adjustable, and woe unto those who choose the wrong setup not knowing any better.)

 

FWIW, I'm in US Central time zone, GMT -5 or -6 depending on winter or summer.

A little update:

 

Over the weekend, I thought to run both the stock TourX BCM headlamp calibration file (39143006) and the stock Insignia matrix LED calibration file (39142371) through @Troy's Hex Editor Neo program to find differences between the two, which I then recorded in an Excel spreadsheet.  

 

The differences between the files fell into three categories, excluding checksums: (1) items which were inactive in the TourX file (coded as "00") but active in the Insignia file (coded something other than "00"); (2) items which were active in the TourX file but not in the Insignia file; and (3) items active but coded differently in each file.  Within category (1), there were also a couple bytes which had entries other than "01", such as "64" or "96".

 

The obvious place to start seemed to be category (1), so I took the TourX calibration file and switched the bytes that were coded "01" in the Insignia file from "00" to "01" in the TourX file and loaded an archive onto the BCM using the modified calibration last night.

 

Nothing appeared to happen last night, but this morning when I started the car I was greeted by this:

 

 

I cannot tell if the system itself is working as it's daytime here.  I can shut the low beams off from the switch on the dash, but when in automatic mode the low beams remain locked on, and I cannot turn the auto-high-beam indicator off from the switch on the stalk.  But: the indicator light is on!

 

I've attached the headlamp calibration I used, as well as my spreadsheet highlighting the differences between the stock TourX and stock Insignia calibrations.  Anyone who wants to see if they can get something that will un-lock the low beams is more than welcome to - I have some ideas on that as well that I'll be experimenting with later this week.

I'm still working on trying to get the low beams to shut off in sunlight, but I was able to finally do a nighttime test last night. 

 

I didn't bring a phone to take video, so you'll have to take my word for it...but the system works, and appears to work as designed. High beams came on automatically and were clearly adjusting themselves to account for street lighting, oncoming traffic, etc. If I can get the low beam issue sorted I *should* have full normal function.

Were high beams cutting off and following  with cutout for oncoming traffic or switching to low beams? 

As near as I could tell, it was the former.  The part that stood out to me was when I approached a T to turn right - I had a car waiting to turn left in front of me, and as I braked I could see portions of the drivers' side light dim down while the rest remained high-beam.  Once I got down below about 30 mph the system switched back to low beam.

The DRLs aren't what is locking on - it's the actual low beam headlamps.  (In normal operation, the low beams only come on at night; I have them on around the clock right now.)

Yes - as I understand it that's a dashboard ambient light sensor. 

Evidence of more fruit borne by my amateur coding efforts attached. 

 

By taking the stock BCM headlamp calibration file and changing the byte at 3c9 from "00" to "01", you apparently restore the low beams to normal function AND slave the auto high beams to them. In other words, the low beams stay off in daylight, but come on AND bring the auto high beam system online when the ambient light sensor doesn't detect enough light. The stalk button has no effect - I can't turn the system on or off independently of the low beams - and the auto high beam icon in the cluster is not lit unless the low beams are on. 

 

Light at the end of this tunnel? Maybe.  I've also added the modified headlamp cal file if anyone wants to play with it some more.  I'll be continuing my efforts as well to see if I can't make it function *correctly* instead of just functioning *acceptably*.

hard and complicated work. not knowing what each bit of each calibration file does. trial and error is complex and time consuming. Have you tried to obtain the calibrations of an Opel Insignia B without AFL and another with AFL and see differences? The easy way is to look for two cars, of the same year and same engine but with different extras. many times only several calibration files change and the rest are the same.

 

 

Finally got out to a dark road at night to test with video...and, folks, I think we got it. 

 

I still need to sort out the correct operation of the switches, but you can pretty clearly see the left-side lamps adjusting themselves multiple times to dim down for oncoming traffic and then come back on full force. 

Should appear High beam blue indicator on dash when is active.

High beam should be on at all the time and oncoming traffic should be cut out from the beam by dimming or turning off LED elements. It is hard to tell from the video what it is actually doing.
