It does not work on bench mode. It is plugged to a 12v OBD network setup.

Is asking me for external power. It works perfect on vehicle.

Try selecting “Clear default device”

I have MDI & MDI2 both are genuine and they work fine in bench mode but your wiring to the OBD connector has to be correct.

Pin 16 - 13.2v

Pins 4 & 5 - ground - they can be joined together

Pin 1 - GM Lan

Pin 6 - Can +

Pin 14 - Can -

Pin 7 - K-Line

I make all my own bench harness's for the ECU's, radios, IPC, EBCM so those pins work and you do not need external power if you have them set correctly although you need an external power source 13.2v to power up the module you are working on so that powers up the MDI or MDI2 at same time if bench harness correct.

One last thing though is that the MDI2 needs the internet more than the MDI but they both require it at some point.

Clones don't but genuine does.

VCX Nano only requires internet to renew license every couple of months in pass thru J2534 mode.

Does your MDI connect on MDI Manager...

I have Cardaq3 for everything and no problem using the same network. I use it for srs reset, etc. Never had any issues.

My little contribution, is the adaptor output more than 12v? When connected, the wattage, is it enough to drive the MDI2?

Its sign of no power detected from obd2 to MDI2

YOU have one of the following reason

1. No power on obd2 port

2. Pin 4, 5, or 16 broken in your cable, obd2 side

3. Cable faulty, could be internally wire broken which is not visible.

4. Check continuity of all pins of cable one end to other end

5. Definitely you will find issue, go thru process and Good Luck

Good morning. Came back to my office.

It has power, 12.9V to be exact.

This is what I use. Being using this for more than 5 years. No problem at all. Great adapter.

I can connect a Cardaq3, a Pass Thru anything will work but the MDI2, is original by the way.

If I plug the MDI to a car, it works without any issues.

If possible send me anydesk i will try to find where is issue,

Please forgive my ignorance, You connect the MDI2 to the EASY CONNECT?

I may be wrong but from the picture you posted, take a good look at the connection again. The EASY CONNECT is not well seated to the PIN OUT.

follow schematic diagram on what module you want to connect on bench,, if by high and low speed gmlan,, you need terminating resistor paralleled to pin 6 and 14 of obd

What ohm is needed on this resistor?

If it is a MDI2 then when not plugged into a OBD2 port and only the computer you should see a red light flashing on the MDI2 unit and that light is telling you that it is only getting power via the USB cable.

Now when you plug into the OBD2 port if power is present like you said it was and ground is connected then no other connection matters at that point the red light on the MDI2 should disappear and it it does then it is not a power issue.

If the red light keeps flashing it means it is not getting power OR not getting enough power and so even if you have 12.9v (car batteries are around 13.2v) you might not have the amps for it to power up correctly especially since you say when you plug it into the car that it works perfectly.

So you need to test your bench power supply and check and see what lights are on the MDI2 to move forward.

120k but that is not what is stopping the MDI2 from powering up and you do not actually need it for a ECU as it has it already built in but you do need it if you plug in a BCM or EBCM on the bench as they will not communicate on the CAN line without it.

That is a BCM or EBCM without a ECU because the ECU has the resistor.

You can tell who has made their own bench cables and who hasn't 🤣

That is a BCM or EBCM without a ECU because the ECU has the resistor.

if mdi2 was ok on vehicle,, the problem exactly is on your bench harness,, (power and grounds) terminator resistor is 120 ohms not 120K ohms
