Hi I am Wayne from Australia and I am interested in all programming on VE Commodores here in OZ.

I have a few DPS archives made for the VE but looking for information on how to make my own Type4 files and other things that DPS-SPS can do.

The VE uses Tech2Win so to my knowledge there are not any Type 4 files from SPS.

So type4 only work if the car is supported by GDS2 as some actually do work?

SPS - DPS archives work fine so that might be why I am having issues with type4 then.

So how do you use DPS to change VIN on modules as I have seen it done with DPS and it was not doing a full program run?

Type4 actions only come from SPS to my knowledge.

 

To change the VIN in the module you just use a modified utility file.

I seem to get the same answer all the time - everyone seems to know how it is done but no one will explain how it is done to modify the utility file etc

We only answer easy questions, once you start asking secret hard questions, we keep our mouths shut!  Please ask only easy questions.

I answer what I can, but you have to show you want to learn how to do it.  I tend not to hand out answers like this one. 

 

I suggest you dig into the interpreters white paper and a little.  Read the OP codes in a utility file and see what it is doing during each step.  Then ask a question if you get stumped.

I have worked out SPS and converting the cache to DPS archives and a lot more it is just this last bit that has me stumped. I can change the VIN on everything if I do a full program but not by itself but I will keep reading and learning but once you are over 60 the more you learn the more you forget

I noticed that often here, there a lot of very nice helpful people who respond to many questions and they don't get anything in return for it, so they are very nice to take the time to do it.  But as soon as you follow-up with the question that will solve all the problems, people just stop responding.  I got used to it, there is one really nice person here who has helped me a lot in the past so whenever I discover something that might be useful to him, I always offer to share it with him and I think I paid him back in some ways.  I guess the secret is finding one guy or a group who will help then also not just leaving this place and never returning the favor, instead to make sure you try to help your friend out in the future any way you can and staying in contact with your friend(s) always helping each other out the best you can.

EDIT: and also I should say I am not picking on BLKATSG, I do not think either of us have ever communicated before or been in the same thread ever, I am just sharing general observations after being here some years.

My Vin change utility file is 6 steps with some extra error handling I probably don't need.

 

You need to unlock the module, read the VIN, write the VIN, then end.

Look at op codes 1A and 3B.

Thanks I have the DPS Interpreter PDF now and I am following through with reading it as I know the VIN is stored generally in the eeprom on all the VE Commodore modules as I have opened most of them up and read the eeprom and changed and written back. So reading the PDF it talked about writing the VIN to the eeprom and the commands so I will continue studying and I have some damaged modules here I can pratice sending the file to on the bench before I do it on a real car.

Don't know how to respond to your post. In a perfect world what you say is correct but I have been on the internet for over 30 years now and seen way to many little cliques evolve on forums to the point where it was intolerable to visit anymore. Initally most forums were a email or daily digest type of thing and information flowed freely but nowadays it really has become more of a hard slog to find information but that is how it went and nothing anyone can do about it. Eventually it will peak and it will go the other way and information will once again flow freely but that may be years from now and I am not getting any younger 
Yes finding a mentor/friend is always a bonus and you never know I might find one here.
