Hi everyone,

I’m curious if anyone here has successfully retrofitted or enabled the OEM Remote Start function on a GM/Opel vehicle that originally didn’t come with it from factory.

I’d like to know:

• Which vehicle/platform did you do it on?

• What hardware was required (BCM, key fobs, etc.)?

• Any immobilizer / security challenges?

• What was the procedure for doing this? (step by step)

Thanks in advance for sharing your setups and lessons learned.

As per previous threads, ECU and BCM are involved on this retrofit, but not much exposed.

Waiting forward to explore more...

If needed, i can source cars for testing.

I have it done on Vauxhall Insignia B, 2l diesel. Involve programming on ECU/BCM. Can be done with original key, but I decide to source Buick key as have dedicated button and look better.

I have sourced a Suburbans stock and Remote start cals for both ECU and BCM, but ECU cals 5,6 and BCM 2,5 which were different, were way more different on structure and size compared to Opels one.

Is there any other clue that you could share in private or here for all. At least if same cals are involved and how many bytes needs to be change.

editing ECM calls is very sensitive area, not many people can edit them, reason behind this as they need to be unpacked, edited, checksum calculated and them packed again.

Are you talking about the whole ECM flash? Or just the calibrations? Checksum can be made in the same way you do the HMI ones

checksum can be made, but unpacking, editing and packing it back as they should be been told is bit tough process

if we could identify only BTV bytes on both ECU and BCM, rest should not be an issue

there is your mistake, BCM is easy to deal...ECU is completely different story

yep, that is way, but there is conciquences as might kill module

Not for E98. easy to recover on boot 🤣

on E98 even no need editing calibrations, there is already ready to use

so for example if i have a 2019 Astra K D16DTH with AdBlue, i just need to edit BCM calibrations for it to work?

and have correct ECU files to flash

In several Cars only editing the bcm calibrations the remote start works

my k its manual, not possible

after modifying BCM 2 and 5 on 3 cars with E98 Ecu, Remote Start option was present but car doesnt remote start.

Either this feature requires 4/5 Button Key, or ECU modifications. i will order a 5 button key and retry.

it need ECM modifications as well

Here is a BCM.bin file I copied from a 2010 HHR BCM with the remote start RPO. I flashed it to my 2010 Cobalt BCM and now I have the remote start option in the IDC.

2010HHR_bcm_org.bin

We could display Remote start on Multimedia but car wont start, probably needs ECU modification aswell.

I can't test it just yet because I have an unrelated issue with my car and have the check engine light on, but according to the data coming out of my BCM it is indeed getting the request to start when I push the correct button on my remote.

Can’t remember but saw some info somewhere regarding that you have to do some wire adding/modification on hood locking mechanism. Basically BCM needs to see that the hood is closed in order to remote start on your car
