2019+ equinox cluster into 2016 Malibu

Hey ,

Can I install 2019+ equinox cluster into 2016 malibu LT? My vehicle has monochrome cluster and after doing research I am seeing that a base model equinox cluster from 2019 and up may work as it is still a color cluster but it does not have audio menu or any extras like my vehicle now. They are also very cheap to obtain. It would basically be the same cluster but with a color screen. Let me know if I can do this? I have programmed modules before using techline but I never used dps to program. not sure what i would need to do to get it working.

Another difference I have noticed is that the equinox cluster has a mini USB connection on the back, not sure what it’s used for. The larger blue connector is the same. Thank you in advance

Mini USB usually is for HUD. I’m other side of the pond so will appreciate pictures from both clusters. Might will need some pins swaps and some custom programming

Wouldn't it be better to just try and use the 2016 Malibu UDD cluster instead of trying a different model vehicle?  You have the UDC cluster if it is the monochrome.

Here are pictures of the cluster. The larger connector I believe is the same except for the mini usb part. Not sure if the usb is critical for the cluster to operate. I can definitely use the UDD malibu cluster but then it leaves me with an non functional audio menu, my vehicle is not equipped with HMI. I have monochrome UDC cluster

I tried putting a 2017 Cruze UDD cluster in a 2017 Cruze that had the UDC cluster.  The menus worked but the radio volume and channel buttons on the steering wheel did not work.  Now I wonder if I put the calibrations from an Equinox in my cluster if that would correct the issue.

There were a few settings in the xml I messed with to try and get the buttons working, but that didn't fix the issue.

So the 2019 Equinox calibrations programmed into my 2017 Cruze UDD cluster just fine.  Maybe I'll find time this weekend to plug it into the car and test the steering wheel volume buttons.

UDC and UDD works differently, at least in Astra K. (UDC dont shows radio info, and UDD needs the HMI system, or the Harman Info3)

There are UDD/UHS(UDV) speedometers for "Navi900 intellilink" (Called in Europe for OPEL) for HMI based systems and

there are UDD/UHS/(UDV) speedometers for "Opel Navi Pro" (Called in Europe for OPEL) for Harman Info3X systems.

Are similar, but for HMI works via MOST BUS, and for Harman, works using an ethernet bus

It is true that, for example, in MOKKA/Encore the UDD works with the same controls as the UDC. Strange things from GM...

The steering wheel controls of a UDD speedometer are usually controlled by LIN BUS.

The USB connector on speedometers is usually for the Head Up Display and Cadillacs usually have another additional one, for night vision.

The 32-pin speedometer connector is usually the same in practically all GM global A vehicles and follows the same pinout.

Any Global A speedometer can be installed in any Global A vehicle. Caution must be taken, since starting MY 2021 in some models the calibrations are signed, and cannot be edited...

The steering wheel buttons for my UDC, and the upgraded UDD cluster wire into the IPC the same for both.  It isn't a button issue.  The problem is the UDD cluster is sending a single for a volume/tuner change to a non existent HMI.  The button press displays on the screen, but nothing happens.  I was hoping to find a vehicle that had the UDD cluster w/o HMI.  I thought _new_user found one, but I see it uses the newer version 3.x infotainment.

In encore/mokka i see that:

UDD Clusters with UDC Controls.

But if you install a UDD with LIN controls in a car with UDC controls

image.png.a26479ddd366e61b01c0d920b0cda8b2.png

you must install an adapter (for example stalk2lin) so that you can move through the instrument panel menus. At least that's what I understand from what has been tested here in Europe.

I have read that it is not possible to make a UDD LIN work by changing calibrations so that it works with the UDC controls.

But, there are cars with UDD without IO5/IO6 radio systems?

So on the 2017-2019 Chevrolet Cruze, it uses the same steering wheel and stalk between the two clusters.

The steering wheel buttons work just fine with the UDD cluster except for the two radio volume buttons on the back of the wheel and the two tuner buttons on the back of the wheel..

If you know of a car that has the UDD cluster w/o IO5 or IO6 let me know and I'll go on the hunt.
