XML File for E98 ECU & Adding RPO to ECU

Featured Replies

Hello community,

During the SPS programming I tried to download the XML file of the ECU (E98) of Opel Insignia MY2018. But all I can get hands on is just the BUILD file.

I have already watched the tutorial from Troy and was following the instructions. But I had no luck to get the XML file of the ECU.

I can get the XML files of some other controllers, but not of the ECU.

Is possibility blocked by SPS or GM ?

The reason why I need it:

I just want to add one RPO : "Active grille shutter" to my ECU. My plan was to get the XML and the BUILD files of the ECU E98, add the PRO code manually and create a new configuration file of the ECU with DPS. Then I would flash the configuration into the ECU via DPS and update  the ECU with SPS when connected to the car.

Could any first say that it is possible at all? If yes, is my plan correct? Then I wonder why I can't see the XML of the ECU in the same folder of the BUILD file...

I really appreciate your ideas and help.

Best regards,

Wasii

hi This is impossible. The active intake grille is stored in the calibration file

Hello Hang Le,

I understand. Will SPS not be able to download the new calibration files and replace the original calobrations as soon as it would read the ECU with the added RPO code for the Active grille shutter?

Or do you mean that the Active grille shutter is stored in the separate calibration file that can't be added to the list of original calibration files?

If so, then should I get the calibration file from another ECU E98 and manually add it to my calibrations into the ZIP file in DPS, then flash the ECU with DPS and update with SPS?

Best regards,

Wasii

No, SPS would download files that corresponds to your VIN, and after that would apply config according to factory RPO codes. Any modifications must be done after SPS flashing.

You need to either temporary change VIN in your ECU to the similar vehicle, but with shutters, or use an emulator to fool the system.

Best path for you would be to find a vehicle with the same engine and gearbox, and with shutters, and ask somebody to download files for ECU for this VIN.

Thank you for the info.

Does that mean that the other donor VIN should have all the options (360° camera, cruise control and so on) plus active grille shutters?

No, for this purpose - not necessary. Engine and transmission control units are pretty independent of other units/options.

P.S. why would you want to retrofit shutters? Does it really helps to warm the engine that much faster in German climate zone?

I see, thank you.

Just the same engine and transmission. That is all? I could look for that.

I want to retrofit for three reasons: 1. Fun project, 2. Reduce fuel consumption on highway and 3. Decrease warming time of the engine in cold weather. It takes really over 20km to warm it up .

Can I also use the calibration of newer 174hp 2.0 diesel engine on my 170hp 2.0 diesel engine? Or you think I could ruin the engine testing it?

The thing is, that the 174hp engine controls two (upper and lower) grille shutters and the 170hp has an option to control only one - the lower grille shutter...

If I temporarily change the vin number on the ECU to download the calibration files from SPS, can I have the ECU connected on the bench during programming with SPS or should I connect the ECU with new VIN to the car? I am afraid, the car would immobilize ,(blocks) itself as soon as it would see the ECU with wrong VIN number.
