Insignia 2015 HMI NG 2.5 repair

Featured Replies

Hi,

is there somewhere guide for repairing this faulty NG 2.5 modules? There are tons of topics on google about failed HMI modules. Rebooting, freezing ...wont power up...etc. But no solution! Even here I cant find any course?!

My module will turn on, but will shut down after 10 secs, then starts again after 20 sec...or after hour.

Any help? 🙂 thanks from EU 😉

In first instance open and replace heat transfer pad, check fan if run. If that continue. Nearest good phone repair shop might be able to trace and change voltage regulator or power management IC

Thanks much!  I will open it and look. You did it? dont you have any photos where is that voltage regulator? What you mean as heat transfer pad?

People who work with electronics know how power components look like and what to look for on a PCB.

If you're going with 'DIY repair' approach - you should start looking it up too. Most chips have marking - you could start with that. Lookup what they are used for, their pinout, general characteristics, etc.

Power (12V) comes to J1 (black) connector. Electronics usually work with 3.3 or 5V DC levels - so those needs to be reduced to those levels. Probably gonna be a 8-pin chip design.

Other than that, take advice from above - bring it to some experienced technician who have knowledge, skills and tools to find and replace faulty element.

If you still want to do it yourself - open unit, take good highres photos and publish them here.

thanks guys, we are garage shop 🙂 we are repairing sometimes ecus but not GM 🙂 Sure I can find voltage regulator or stab, and do all that work. I was looking for somebody who did it in past. This units are known to fail...it must have some reasons dont tell me it has 50 different faults 😉 But ok... I will do homework with that HMI.

Start with the usual culprits - caps, regulators, mosfets (if there are any)..

  • Contributor

Don't start replacing caps or mosfets, what goes bad is the EMMC or the data on the EMMC, the unit writes to many log files and kills the EMMC this way. I fix it by replacing the EMMC and the GL512 with new data. Then a firmware and map update and the unit is as new again.

If you don't have the tools and the right data you should not attempt to repair it, because all you can do then is cause more damage.

If the update didn't sort it out the EMMC is probably bad. What are the symptoms after the update? Is it still rebooting constantly?

Hi Miragui.  What do you charge to repair the hmi?  I have one here that wouldn't power up.
