  • Yep, the GM OS not booted so it won't show up on GM sps. It could be an EMMC chip issue and if so you would need to replace the HMI module.

Ask them, were they trying to update the sat-nav maps, or did they plug any USB stick into the car's USB port when this happened?

They don't know exactly what caused it. They say they disconnected the battery. Now they are asking for help to resolve this issue.

Now I`m trying to find way to resolve it without to buy new one HMI

That's a bit strange that screen appears after a battery reboot. Thats the HMI's linux OS screen.

It usually pops up when updating maps or updating firmware.

Try removing the car's battery again and wait for 10 mins then reconnect the battery.

Hopefully it's just a system bug.

Maybe they did something else, but they don't admit it. I read about this problem on the forums,
many have been. But often it was just a glitch and after disconnecting the battery it went away.
There is no such option here. Diagnostic equipment now does not see this block at all.

The only way to change HMI module. You can try if the sign dissapears after 80 minutes, you can update it through GM Techline. If not, you will need to change whole module

I saw this PDF it may help with the issue.

HMI Fault

Hi M CH  you updated which car with that usb update?

And where did you find that update?

thank you

  • Contributor

The firmware is for all vehicles that uses the HMI 2.5 modules. After doing the firmware update you will see Calibrate Device on the screen. You use SPS to program the HMI to get it working again.

I received the file and connected the USB, but the message "Update file is invalid" appears. What should I do in this case?

Either your hardware is not supported with this update, or you haven't transferred all the files, or they got corrupted when copying.

Did you end up figuring this out? I know if you plug in a firmware USB update in at this screen to the USB port it will make this work again. It will display as Cadillac after and all the ICONs are Cadillac. You will need to program with TIS or with DPS to get your correct calibrations in to the HMI. You can purposely get to that screen by touching the reset pin i believe to ground while booting up the HMI. It will force this screen to pop up when the HMI isn't dead on bad firmware update. You can also Serial into the file system of the HMI also this way. I've had changed the splash screen to a FSU football game touchdown run when booting up the HMI in a Silverado LOL. You also can change from US to EU or ME or AU doing this also. But the correct calibrations need to be programmed to the HMI for this to work. Haven't done it in a long time. Anyways hope you got it working. I am currently looking for the latest USB Firmware Update for US. If anyone has it? Also Navigation Upgrade USB!!!!!
