GM HMI 2.5 EMMC Chip Pinouts for dumping the HMI Emmc Chip

$100

1 Screenshot

GM HMI 2.5 EMMC Chip Pinouts for dumping the HMI 2.5 Emmc micro Chip

This PDF file illustrates a pin diagram that identifies the HMI 2.5 EMMC chip pins for connecting to a SD card adaptor for dumping the contents of the HMI 2.5 module's EMMC chip, which stores the Sat-Nav maps, calibration files, VIN number and other operating files.

Knowing the HMI EMMC pinouts has various benefits.

  1. You can modify various files example: install your own custom boot up video for the display.

  2. Repair a faulty HMI that has corrupted EMMC chip files.

  3. Swap Map files.

  4. etc.

This tutorial offers only pin-out information for the EMMC.

It does not offer nor do I offer any information or solution about any issues you may have regarding to HMI reseting or other HMI issues.

Just curious, how is you manage to use SDCard reader? Which port is capable to support it? I would go to JTAG first, but it's just me. But Jtag require specific driver for reader and that would be BIG issue.

The pinouts is for the HMI 2.5 EMMC memory chip which stores all the modules data. It is not for the HMI's CPU.

Still don't see any practical use to it. Unless VIN stored on it, which I don't believe at all. But idea itself could be interesting some day.  You can delete it if you don't like me posting it.

Yes the HMI 2.5 VIN is stored in the EMMC chip.

Hmmmmmmm..... Why use DPS then? would it be easier just to edit it in place?

Instead of selling files I would be selling HMI programmed to your vin on eBay. I would buy it for sure and less hassle with GM, I assume.....???? (may be wrong)

Files could be used by a few, HMI need lot of guys

That is a very stupid question.

Which option is easier¿

  1. Would you prefer to remove the HMI module from the car, dismantle the HMI module, sources an SD card adopter, solder 10 very thin wires onto the HMI's circuit board, for changing the VIN.
  2. Or would you prefer to quickly use DPS with a file to change the VIN while the HMI is still installed in the car.

  1. You can modify various files example: install your own custom boot up video for the display.
  2. Repair a faulty HMI that has corrupted EMMC chip files.
  3. Swap Map files.
  4. etc.

LOL, how HMI get to your car with wrong VIN in first place. But you are right on your side, I'm looking to solve my problem and that exclude your point of view of adding video while driving, which I found very strange to fight for. Still waiting for you to answer my question regarding file for HMI VIN relearn, so I can buy it

I've already reply to your question on that file.

Did you tried to trace those test points to edge connector? Or may be trace that edge connector to processor to see which ports it connected to?

Meaning it's possible to swap files. I don't know which files needs to be swapped. You would need to experiment and figure it out.

Hi guys, I'm having problems accessing the emmc partitions. appear, but are not mounted as EXT4 I have tried 8 different computers, with integrated SD readers and always the same result. I have bought several readers, and the same thing. I have only managed to read the partitions with an SD reader similar to the DPMCR4 but the one I had, has decided to rest in peace. I have removed 4 electrolytic capacitors from the HMI board (it is a board that cannot be repaired but I would like to read the emmc) Any ideas? Or does anyone know which reader I can use?

I understand that only a few readers can read the emmc....if anyone knows any or what the problem could be...let me know

Hi Troy do you still do this method?  Have you considered pogo pins?

Hello my friend, I am going to attempt this, did you get it done well?  Do you have any tips or suggestions for someone who has not done it yet?  I tried once and failed, but I am going to give it another try with the recommended Aliexpress card but wanted to see if there is anything I should know for success.  Thank you sir.

It appears that only certain SD readers are supported. and since my partition table was corrupted, I couldn't read anything. And I have not tried it again and I am not going to buy another HMI so that the same thing happens to me.... I had to remove all the capacitors because they were loaded and access to the emmc began to fail.

Ok I understand.  That might explain why I failed at first.  I tried 2 readers but nothing appeared using DiskGenius.  But my readers are cheap.  Do you have a suggestion for a high quality reader?  I don't guarantee my soldering or pogo pin contacts.  I was going to wait until the Aliexpress card came, but if the problem is the reader, I will just buy a very high quality reader.

EDIT: upon looking closer at Troy's photos, it appears he is using a Pris Apple SD Card reader.  I will buy one of those.

there are some readers compatibles

Thank you for your advice.  I will look into some of these and buy one.  Let me offer some advice, you probably already know it, but if you do not want to solder directly to the board you can use pogo pins with blank pc boards and a digital microscope to verify contact.  It is safer and best if you plan to do it more than once.  I will reply after I get a better sd card reader to let you know my progress.  Until then, thank you for your helpful advice now and in the past, you have always been very nice to help me out always.  Have a good afternoon sir (depending on your timezone).

I note the method of putting the cables in! I tinned the wires directly to the board. But I like that method. In Spain it's almost 0.00 haha
