Odometer Problem

I have a very strange problem with the mileage display when the car is off for a long time.

If I start/switch on the car directly after getting in, the mileage display comes on immediately without any problems.

But if I wait about 5 minutes until all control devices have shut down again and then start/switch on the car.

First comes ------ then restart the IPC and then it will show my mileage.

And because the IPC restarts/resets, all my settings are reset and shows all the menus that I have disabled.

Before: 9 out of 14 Pages.

After reset: 14 out of 14 Pages.

How can I fix this?

in my car,

i unlock with remote, open and close door. The speedometer shows the mileage, and do the boot animation. OK.

I wait 5-8 minutes, turn on the radio and the IPC shows ------ and turn off, but later show the correct milleage after the radio turns on and up the volume from the strering wheel to power up the speedometer. My performance pages and the normal pages not affected. Still configured whit the selected pages to shown. The unselected pages, still unselected.

I never try this... but, maybe the ------ can be normal. why? i dont know, but probably do that because the low speed GMLAM, go isolated of the rest of the car by the serial gateway until the BCM send the wake up message to send the vin and stop  showing ------. its a theory.

Why in your case, the pages has resetted? i dont know why... in my case, not happens

Good to know I'm not the only one with this.

I don't think it is a gateway module because mine doesn't have one(MY 11.2015)

(In GDS2 no gateway module and no answer at addr. 45 DPS)

In my case, i have serial gateway K56. 2019.

I don't know since what year they installed the K56 module, but it is true that the first ones do not have it. I have a complete dashboard wiring, and it does not have the connectors for K56 So the ------ I don't know what could be the reason.

At first I thought that my BCM was too slow (old) but unfortunately that's not the cause, if yours is from 2019.

Do any ECU set U-code DTCs?

  • GM Car Hacking Expert

No, actually none.

At first I thought it was B3980, but I think that was older Code. I have provoked the problem several times but so far no error code that helps

  • GM Car Hacking Expert
  • Contributor

B3980 is the environment identifier error between BCM and IPC.

which is resolved, (as we already know) by deleting the keys and relearning the environment ID (Z1 immobilizer programming, option Engine Control Module And Body Control Module IMMO Learn)

As far as I know, the only trigger for showing ------ on the speedometer is that the VIN is incorrect.

in my case, no DTCs stored too. I asked to friends if in the UDD happens the same.

B3980 was probably only set for me when I removed my speedometer for testing.

IMMO I got it working back in July.

few times I faced that when IPC was chenged without VIN correction and after sometime IPC was locked to show odometr value. VIN was changed to correct, but milage was ------ anyway. But I think it is not our case.

If you plug a speedo without change the VIN shows ------ yes.

but if this moment, change the vin, the odometer works.

If you drive the car without change the vin, the odometer locks until do a BCM programming (once vin corrected in IPC)

In bench i connected a few IPC without change the vin, and not locked the odometer.

Our ------ "Problem" or its normal or we missing something we donk know.

If someone can try the same can share their result.

For me, its not worrying because all working ok when do a normal ignition.

I tried this on a GMC Sierra, the cluster doesn't start up fast enough.  I've always known the clusters to do the ------ for a mismatched VIN but what I suspect in the scenario you're testing, the cluster is waking up before the BCM starts sending the ODO messages across the bus.  I could be wrong.  I don't get why the OP's original post is losing the page configuration memory though, that I feel would be internal to the cluster itself.  Again, assumptions.

Before, direct ignition start:

Infotaimint Start

After:

I thing it go to the Default stade,

example:

P_NG_TRANS_FLUID_TEMP_MENU_DEFAULT is in DID enabled and stay after "bug" aktive

P_NG_TSM_MENU_DEFAULT is in DID NOT enabled and stay after "bug" goes the Page away

On my small Test Bench(without BCM), the cluster always shows the last mileage without any Problem.

And, we must also keep in mind, that too much works. We are using a speedometer that was not designed for the Astra K 😆

I was just asking because maybe someone had something like that.

Because Astra K is not the only car where the speedometer is replaced with something better or bigger. Just like GMC

I thought it would just be a simple fix😌or I had made a mistake, which apparently it wasn't.

Hello, how can I read the insignia counter configuration using DPS?

When IPC was configured once, there are not default DIDs or not. Checking or unchecking some menu don't chenge DIDs from XML, as far as I remember.

No no, I didn't mean that.

I mean with "_DEFAULT" you config which ones are visible by default and which ones are not.

When the cluster does his weird things it goes into the default setting.

That apparently means in my case:

Where the page is on by default, it turns on or stays on

Where the page is off by default, it goes off or stays off

image.png.0c9894f4deb0828a2caa045f840e619a.png

I hope that's understandable😅

Yes its true DIDs don't change after Progr.

XMLFile.xml Run it in DPS and look in the log file for the raw data.
