Hi,

I have Insignia A model year 2016 with dead HMI 2.5 unit (84089009 SW: 15.2B033, HW: PP 2.00). I installed a spare HMI 2.5 from Insignia B year 2018 (84251842 SW: 17.1B010, HW: PP 2.00). I have now unlocked the theft lock by using the VIN relearn file (bought from here), and the HMI started working. Now I'm having couple of issues that I'm trying to solve.
1) The new HMI unit has Rear View Camera activated. I don't have time to install a camera to my car, so I would like to disable it
2) The microphone doesn't not work

I tried to update the HMI unit via SPS by using the car's VIN, to get the calibrations that are correct for my car's setup, but as the new HMI unit is from the newer car, error was displayed: "E4419: Unknown ECU software detected which might be a newer version. The programming process is stopped"

Any ideas how to get the car's original calibration files to the HMI as the SPS will not give them as they are older?

U have to update via UsB and them update via sps or dps. Then has to configure radio and IPC. 

Your car have onstar?

 

Depending on whether it has onstar or not, the calibration that makes the microphone work is different. if you load a calibratios of a car with onstar, in a car without onstar, the mic stop working.

 

For SPS, search a VIN of insignia B you need and programm the HMI using this vin and will program OK

@Arbe_gtcInsignia A 16 plate not have OnStar, but Insignia B have. Now issue is where him new hmi search for OnStar module to connect microphone. Has to program with correct calibrations and execute Configuration to A11 and P16

In p16 you dont need change anyting. i tell you because the last week configuring a HMI for Insignia A without onstar, i located the bits to change the mic configuration (in calibration 8 ) for onstar or not onstar. and it works. tested in my car

How can I get the correct calibrations = the calibration files for my car VIN?

Or would it work so, that if I program some old random calibration files to HMI and then try to update with SPS to calibration files using my car's VIN?

Got the calibration files loaded to the HMI via DPS. Camera is now disabled, which is what I wanted. Didn't have time to check the mic with a phone call, but the voice recognition button doesn't work on the steering wheel and also the icon for it on the screen is not active.

Was planning to update HMI next with this file, and then load the calibrations again. What do you think, would it get the voice recognition work?:

 

U have to flash USB, I think then apply calibrations. If still doesnt work mic/buttons need to execute Setup and configuration to radio and IPC

As Lyubomir wrote, your best bet is to try the USB update then do the calibration.  When I encountered this, I had a European unit that I purchased off of eBay (same part number as your original) and I had the exact same issue even if I'd load the HMI Calibrations.  And even worse, if I tried to use the North American software, the USB update would simply reject it.  I had manually copied the software over and had it working but I've since bricked the unit (it was a bench test).  See if you can get the USB software for that unit, try to load it then calibrate it again.  One thing you can try too is download the USB software for the 84089009 and then the 84251842 (might be too new to let you - I know in NA it does this) then compare.  If they're different, you may have a unit that you won't be able to load the software easily up to.  

@codebuilderwill be no have issue to load USB update as update is almost universal. But as I say may will need to Configure radio and IPC to make it everything working

I imagine it should be fine in Jakobb's case but I did find, if you have an 84089011 and an 84089009, the GM update software will reject it.  I had that 84089009 that an autowrecker brought into the US, it was loaded with European maps.  You can map update it but the speech wouldn't work at all.  Using the NA software USB update, it simply just refused and said invalid file.  Using the EU file, no problem!  I jailbroke it in the end and did it that way but it was a pain.  It does look at the hardware ID before allowing the USB update.

 

In any case, it's likely the software on the unit not the calibrations like you've mentioned as I encountered this exact same thing.

USB update is dependant from Operational Software installed in module. If match - update will be accepted, if not - fail.

That's exactly what I mean 🙂 but his module may have a different version.  If he tries to download what was from his old hmi into the new, it may just simply fail.  Worth a try though.

Him replacement HMI is accept files calibrations, so Operational Software been corrected to use USB update.

We're not understanding each other.  If they need further help, I'll chime in then.

- Updating firmware to HMI 2.5 Firmware file 84156714 via USB
- Programming the HMI calibrations original to my car

That's it.

Also learned that the USB stick needs to be FAT32 and NOT exFAT.

hi Me. I have same problem but vioce comand button on steering wheel is not working using CarPlay. Voice comand button works normally when CarPlay is not connected. How can I fix?

Correct calibrations for HMI, Radio and IPC and Setup execution

And if you upgraded to CarPlay from not having it, sometimes you need a newer IPC.

@codebuilder just need firmware updated to 2016/17 and all will be okay
