A11 Upgrade

I have stripped a spare A11 radio to see if i could upgrade the power to give it some more depth.

 

I have removed the amplifier chip in the hope that I can replace it with one more powerful.

This is a picture of the amplifier, ST 09400036 I have searched everywhere for a datasheet but can't find one.  All I know so far is it's in a Zip25 package and it's 20w per channel.

The attached datasheet is for a TDA7564B 4 x 50w which is the same package and I believe it will also be electrically compatible but I just need to find a datasheet to confirm.

 

Anyone have this information?

Bear in mind to provide enough power 😉 as extra output power will require adequate input power

It's a common practice for chip manufacturer to produce a batch of chips with a totally different and unique P/N for a client (although chip in question, in fact, is 100% the same as the off-the-shelf stock) - just to differentiate it from the common stock. Car companies may have asked for some additional tests or conformity checks for these chips, which are not needed for a general purpose applications outside of automotive world.

 

So you may be out of luck in finding a datasheet for this P/N, because it was not meant to be public.

If you are saying it's 100% the same are you suggesting I can just solder it and test?

 

I know the same chip was used in the old Astra/Corsa/Zafira/Vectra CD30 radios also. 

 

Obviously I'll possibly need to look at cabling and fuses also.

No, I'm not suggesting any of that.

All I'm saying - is you probably won't find any datasheet for this chip.
But, if you know some technical data for this "unknown" chip - you can cross reference it with an existing portfolio from the same manufacturer from the same time period to find any similarities, and hope in the end that they are 1:1 match. But this require some extensive research..

The easy and lazy solution - yeah, just straight up solder it to existing circuit and hope it won't fry anything and will work as expected 😄

Power and audio output pins should stay the same across different models/generation if packaging remained the same.

And exactly for the same reasons - to minimize costs of adjusting the performance by simply changing SMD components on the same design boards.

 

As I can see from pinout, the only difference between your TDA7564B chip and most other off-the-shelf chips - is I2C bus on pins 22/25. Original chip from A11 is most probably also I2C driven for more flexibility.

analog of this chip  is the TDA7560 , but power of both is very similar:
28W - VS = 14.4 V; THD = 10 %

20W - VS = 14.4 V; THD = 1 %
( 50 W it is max power, not  nominal ) , so the change will not have a big effect.

If you need more power , I suggest you install an additional amplifier
