Need Help DPS saying archive file is not a GMLAN archive

Featured Replies

Hey guys i am very new to this stuff so I am trying to learn.  I read Troy's tutorial about making dps archive files.  I am using sps2 to get the calibration files and making the archive in dps.  So when I go to program it I get a error saying the file name is not a GMLAN archive.  I tried making the archive over several times but still the same.  I am at loss if anybody has any information it would be greatly appreciated thanks.  I included the file that I have made.

You have to extract the calibration files and then use the .bin files for archive creation.

Either troys tutorial is wrong or something has changed along the way with SPS2 Techline.

Ok cause the tutorial says to delete the bin fines after extracting them if I am reading it right.  I will give that a try tomorrow and see what happens. Thank you for the help

That tutorial was made using a Europe VIN.

Europe VIN SPS compressed files has a .bin extension and no .bin extension when uncompressed.

USA VIN SPS compressed files has no .bin extension and a .bin extension when uncompressed, some has a ~ at the end.

The file name doesn't really matters, you just need to uncompressed the files using 7zip then use the uncompressed files to create the archive as stated in the tutorial, and make sure to list the calibrations in the order that is stated on the tis2 website.

That makes sense. Thanks Troy

Here are the calibration files unzipped.  I have been deleting the .bin according to the tutorial.  So do I need to make the archive using the .bin files or the other files?  Sorry for so many questions I’m trying to understand so I can hopefully make a project work.

I had to make the archive with the .bin files to make it work.

Try it and see what you get .

I'm just playing with this hmi right now cause I don't plan on using it.  I'm just trying to figure this out.  Plus me and my father own a salvage yard so learning this could maybe help sell a few more things.

You are getting error during transfer of data

Maybe you have a wrong utility file for the ECU you are trying to program ?

This response code indicates that the requested action will not be taken because the ECU detected a data
byte(s) in the request message which attempt(s) to substitute (a) value(s) beyond its range of authority (e.g.,
attempting to substitute a data byte of 111 when the data is only defined to 100).
Example: The ECU shall send this response code in case the tester has sent a request message including data
bytes to adjust a variant which does not exist (invalid) in the ECU. This response code shall be implemented for
all services which allow the tester to write data or adjust functions by data in the ECU.

I am learning as well. Maybe Troy can chime in.

Could sps2 give out the wrong utility file?  I'm just asking questions.

  • Contributor

If you pulled it by vin for the device you trying to program then it should be fine.

Are you using original files or did you modify/swap calibration files?

  • Author

That is all I did.  Didn't modify anything.  All I am trying to do is change vin numbers with in the module.

  • Contributor

Is the module original to the vin? And the files also match the vin/module?

  • Contributor

Whats the VIN and HMI P/N

  • Author

I will have to get you the information tomorrow.  I’m just practicing on the hmi cause I know that it’s a non CarPlay hmi and I’m going to replace it so I just thought I would see if I can change the vin number on it first
