I installed a front view camera module on my 2018 Cadillac ATS, unfortunately the manufacturer enable counter was set to 255 after reprogramming. There is no "reset to 0" function for this module in GDS2. Do I have to wait 200+ ignition cycles?

I mean just send a simple CAN message to module.

Just select your own VIN and then program it with DPS, but my MEC was still set to 255

Thanks for your information. You mean  CAN command $3B, right? I guess I'll need a bench setup to test it.

yes. but no need to setup bench. use OBDLink MX if you have.

Mode $3B is Write DID in GM vehicle. $1A is read

I have a Vgate which can only link to cellphones for now, I'll try OBDLink MX+OBDwiz later.

Update:

I was enlightened by JBL_1989 and made a bin file to set MEC by DPS. It works well, now the module can relearn.

 

 

How to set back to 255 ? 
3A A0 00 serts it from anything to 00, but I think to reprogram the Immo it needs to be new again idk 255, but that doesn’t seem to work? 
I tried sending 3B A0 FF and that didn’t work even tried seed and key then 3B A0 FF

Its a Silverbox, but i can load calibrations normally

I wouldn’t make it zero it’s not restore to zero it’s texture to 255. New virgin is 255, each time you cycle on key it goes down one. So 255-207! It’s been cycled 48 times. I you can still reset to 255, but ounce you set it to zero your screwed! When set to zero it will spit out seed and key, and you may not be able to change things like vin etc.

 

if you want to perminatley lock it then set to zero, or switch key on off 207 more times.

Send 3B A0 00 to lock and set to zero, or 3B A0 FF to reset to 255.

I have some units in 0 and i can change that.

Yes same but I’m told most newer ones this locks it? 

The XML os clusters says this about A0:

This DID shall be implemented according to the GGSE ECU Diagnostic Infrastucture document and GMW 3110.                                        The MEC shall be supported during ECU development and production by all nodes which implement the SecurityAccess ($27) service.                    The MEC is a single byte in permanent (EEPROM or equivalent) memory which allows a node to remain unlocked as long as its value is not $00.                    When the value of the MEC becomes $00, security shall be enabled and the SecurityAccess ($27) service shall be required to access security.                                        The MEC counter shall be decremented each time system power mode transition from System Power Mode "RUN" to either System Power Mode "ACC" or "OFF".                                        A node shall not allow the value of the MEC to change once it becomes $00 unless SecurityAccess ($27) is successfully initiated (Security_Access_Unlocked is set to TRUE).                                        Note: MEC should not be written to $FF value in the production ECUs. In development ECUs its allowed to write to $FF

in the C:\DpsArch folder, you have files "Set_MEC_to_zero_***" for some units

Thank you.  I noticed there are 2 for each ecu. One is Set_MEC and other is UDS_Set_MEC  what is the difference?

UDS i think is for global-b vehicles
